Controllers

In a Ruby on Rails application, the controllers sit between the views, which communicate with the user, and models, which communicate with the database. Because most database applications require create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations, these functions form the heart of most controllers. Controllers prepare data needed for views, write new data to the database, and process any errors that occur during the interaction. Controllers can also create and consume data packets in XML or other markup to enable the application to act as a web service.
